Why does the upgrade to 12.1 SUCK Big Time ??? (Windows)

Let us count the ways...

1) After downloading and installing the upgrade, upon initial launch... all of your DASH is GONE.

2) You now have to wait hours or days (you won't know until its done) for 3+ years of data to synchronize.

3) While you wait, you have to HOPE and PRAY that all of your DASH will be recoverable somehow. In my case, its 1000 DASH or roughly $100,000. GONE from the wallet.

4) This experience alone has a near 100% chance of shaking your confidence in the core developers.

5) Its 2017, and DASH Core Team hasn't figured out how to offer automated upgrades from within their own software.

6) Its 2017, and DASH Core Team hasn't figured out how to offer manual upgrades from within their own software.

7) Its 2017, and DASH Core Team hasn't figured out how to notify the User that a software upgrade is available or required.


Gentlemen (Core Developers),

This is Financial Software. These things CAN NEVER happen. Ever.

In the universe of Financial Software, if you spook the User... they may never return.

Larry if you read instructions maybe you wouldn't be writing this post, I guess we all learn the hard way.. evolution will hopefully help you out and is reaching out to users just like you, so hang in there...

Oh, they can, easily.
Rumors are there are users out there who have a $100000 wallet and upgrade it without backups or reading instructions.

If I would have a wallet with $100000 worth of coins I'd read the instructions twice.
And after that, a third time.
And maybe a fourth time just to make sure I didn't misread anything during the first 3.
 
Larry shared a negative experience he had using Dash software. Feedback like this is VERY important and valuable. A post like this should be promoted, not bashed. Blaming the user is absolutely the wrong response if we want to improve and expand the use of Dash.

No. He describes how every bitcoin like block chain software works, it has nothing to do with Dash. If he doesn't understand how the software works he should not be using it with real money.
Worse is that he starts blaming other people for his lack of understanding. He's either a troll or unfit to 'be his own bank'.
 
Isn't the whole point of Dash to be user-friendly?

Granted, his tone was not ideal, but it behooves us to learn from the content of his negative experience. Also consider that other users who may have a negative experience might be reluctant to share if they think they will be treated badly. This isn't just about Larry.

The MNOs are so stupid! They vote in the budget system and they spend Dash for marketing things, but they dont give a penny to a developper to fix this serious bug. Idiots....Have a look at the current budget proposals that are currently scheduled to be approved. I marked with purple the approved marketing and advertising proposals:

Be very careful what you do with your wallet and your Dash.

I suggest you get a second computer or laptop where you can do tests to learn how the Dash wallet works.

Once you understand how the wallet works, how backup works, how to upgrade, THEN do what you need to do. Until then take a few weeks to learn.

Did you backup your wallet?

I completely agree. This is normal. It isn't easy understanding how backups work and everything. It takes some time to learn especially when your background isn't working with computers on a technical level.

Exactly. It is very easy to write proposals for feasts, festivals and youtube videos.
It is hard to write proposals for development.
Not only they should not ask you 500$ to propose, but they should pay you 500$ for proposing something related to development.

Pls stop trolling these posts demo, your comments are mostly negative anyway. So with regards to Larry's experience granted his tone was off hence why I replied in kind. But if you look at in the real world scenario, would someone jump into a car and start driving immediately? Without learning before hand, would someone jump into a swimming pool and start swimming or would they have to learn beforehand. It's one thing learning and it's another thing moaning when you have not read documentation and instructions, he was in the wrong to be so off with his tone and he was wrong for slacking off the developers, I am sure if someone works on something so hard for a while and then a person comes along and says oh it's a bunch of cr**p, how would that make you feel? I mean would you really invest in something without reading or researching beforehand.

What Larry asks, is not a difficult task for a decent developer to implement. Have a look at the steps:

step 1) shut down your wallet. allow it to completely shut down. wait 30-60 seconds.
The installation wizzard could stop the installation procedure in case another wallet found running and ask the end-user to completely shut down the wallet before continue.
step 2) check you have about 3 Gigabytes of free disk space.
This is a piece of cake for a developer to implement.
step 3) open the folder containing your dash folder
step 4) duplicate your dash folder and rename the copy to dashcore
step 5) open your dashcore folder and delete the cache files
The steps 3-5 do not even require a developer, it is so easy that many non-developers could write a script for doing it.
step 6) download and install dash 12.1
This should be the step 0.

The task is very easy, and I really wonder why the core team does not fix this. Thats why @Larry yells. Because the task is very easy to accomplish, yet as long as it remains the way it is, it causes enormous problems to the end-users.

Duhh you or Larry have clearly not read anything on documentation... The dashman script built by moocow literally automates this for you all.. I guess it's like talking to a brick wall here... Pls Go read the documentation before commenting any further and had Larry joined the slack channel as mentioned before everyone started updating maybe he would not be in the position he was in which led to this post. Oh and demo if you really think your that good I explore you to sign up to assist the dash core team rather then hinder it and we will see how much you get done.

Are you kidding me? You should require for the end-users to read NOTHING, when they are trying to install the software!!! This is the most important rule of any user friendly software!

I am not here to assist neither the dash core team nor the masternodes. I dont care about them, and I even dislike most of them. I am here to assist the ordinary people who would like to escape from the current world monetary system , and to be free. I am here to defend the rights of the generations of the future, and not the rights of this wicked generation.

Maybe you didn't catch the experimental note at the beginning... Oh well shows how much you read and maybe you think everything is easy to install or that everyone is telepathic that they know what the other person is thinking... Or how everything works.

Agreed. If this kind of thing *can* be avoided or at least mitigated in some way, that would help. Not all dash users are on the forum they just go to the website and see there is a new version, install it like they have always done, and then they are understandably confused when they don't see their coins in their wallet. That's not a good user experience, even if it is not done automatically, there should at least be something in the installer that alerts the user that they need to take some extra steps if they are upgrading from 0.12.0 or earlier.
