There is no hurdle. The name is what it is, make the letters more colorful will change nothing. All those things are meaningless. Promoting the privacy, the anonymity etc. is the key of success.damnit i guess i missed the vote too.
i guess #6 won although im not impressed. no matter what, it has got to have a light friendly feel to it. it has to be something other than black! IMO the biggest hurdle that we have to overcome is the name DARKCOIN. Dont get me wrong, personally i like the name but if we are looking for mass adoption than we have to lighten it up and make it more appealing to the regular guy who might get the idea that there is something shady about a currency name DARKCOIN.
Original source files (AI format) from the designer available here: https://mega.co.nz/#!4wUGHaDR!1Pk4jy2fU9g_u0Pb820G5DYFq9xTx-rw2OrOYy6Ht-8
According to the designer the font used was "Eurostyle bold extended"

The designer only submitted the b&w version. My suggestion would be to generate a series of colour variations and had a vote -- that way we aren't just defaulting to the only colour version that anybody's seen.I agree about the color - I think the designer submitted a version in blue, and that's what we're going with. I really does look good in blue.
The pro-color folk are going to be disappointed. When it comes to color schemes, least offensive easily acquires the plurality. Hurry up with the vote so that B&W can win handily and the logo saga ends.

If the discussion moves to darkcointalk it will involve less of the community. And if it was made clear that the original vote was not including the color scheme i missed it and im sure I wasnt the only one. Didn't vote for the winner, but it won. Let's do it, can;t please everyone. It looks great.
Guys I think that b/w logo is the best one and trendy. Look around on the logos of the multimilons companies....b/w.... stay focused its sharpy.
There are some famous black and white logos, somebody did post an example on bitcointalk during the first "debate", even if, it's the occasion to be unique and highly recognizable. Moreover, I think that b&w suits better the Darkcoin than (e.g.) the color blue which seems off topic ...I'm no advert, but I think that color plays a big part in branding. Without looking, can you tell me the colors of a Coke can?
Of course you can, everyone knows red and white.
We may not have to change the logo (although I recommend we do the blue/black color scheme), but LimLims is right - we need a color pallette. It would make sense to include that color in the logo to add one additional factor that reminds people of Darkcoin.
I"m sure you are right about the black and white logo, but as I just htink about it off the top of my head, I can't think of any that are black and white. Wall Street Journal maybe? Maybe it's just me, but every logo I can think of is in color...
EDIT: Actually, Anonymous has a black and white logo. I think they are branding for a different reason, tho.
I agree that black & white CAN work in some cases, but Darkcoin also has some stigma due to its name and the features it offers. I don't have a problem with it, but its clear that a number of people do and that's something that really needs to be taken into consideration if we want Darkcoin to achieve mainstream acceptance. I think that using a brighter, friendlier, more inviting color palette could, at least to some extent, help mitigate its image issues. There are some famous black and white logos, somebody did post an example on bitcointalk during the first "debate", even if, it's the occasion to be unique and highly recognizable. You can't change that with a logo. Put flowers, colorful fonts the coin is still named Darkcoin, we have to highlight the value added by the coin and embrace the name there is no stigma. This is an excellent point. Some people believe the name itself is too hard to market. Having a brighter, friendlier color scheme is a good middle.
