made payment to myself, but disappeared?

Hi, I am a new user of DarkCoin and have the Qt app on my OSX machine.

I successfully got some DRK into my wallet and then had some of that mixed with DarkSend. Then I tried to send some of that to an address in the same wallet, which seemed to be a success, but then just disappeared.

I used one of the addresses under "Receive". I did a "Create Darksent Transaction" with a few DRK, twice, but the only thing showing up in the Transactions is:

2014-11-27T16:27:22 Payment to yourself -0.00001 2b0f345760b0f89e1c5e7ada43d41d0e5dcc01c0934ada6c3937becbc1240489-000

2014-11-27T13:48:49 Payment to yourself -0.001 b30da062dc2f15fc20462e33fbe0a7981abf3a5e2a1563abf23080129b9a0b1c-000

The amounts were deducted from my DarkSend balance, but I never saw them back in my total balance :( Any idea what went wrong here?

I was able to send successfully to another address on an exchange. However it seems that on every DarkSend transaction a 1 DRK is being used extra. Is this to be expected?

Sorry if I sound like a n00b here. I probably still am when it comes to crypto currencies.
 
Hello and welcome :)

If I remember correctly "Total balance" shows you... well, total balance - all coins you have no matter were they anonymized or not.
So nothing should come back as it's already there. They might be subtracted from total balance when you anonymizing them for example and become "Immature" balance but once they have enough confirmations they should show up in total balance again. Just double check this.

Now about "extra" 1 DRK. You are trying to send 1 DRK from some anonymized 1.00000001 input but you have to pay transaction fee 0.001 so you need to subtract fee from somewhere. But 1.00000001 + 0.0001 > 1.000000001. And that's why your wallet is using "extra" 1 DRK (1.00000001 actually) - to pay that fee. However you'll get the change from that back to your wallet so there is (almost) nothing to worry about (and if you need something to worry about :wink: you can read thread about "dead change" here on forum).
 
Ah, you know what. I just added up all my transactions and they do actually add up :) I was mistaken there. Thanks for reassurring me though.

As for the extra DRK, I will read up on the "dead change" thing. I guess what confused me the most is that I don't see this transaction in detail in my transactions list, just the "non-fee" part of the transaction. Maybe that can be made more transparant. I also don't have the "inputs" button on the Qt client on OSX, BTW.

And for that "Inputs..." button - go to top menu - "DarkCoin-Qt" -> "Preferences..." -> "Display" and check "Display coin control features (experts only!)"
Now you should have it on the "Send" tab - that should give you some additional knowledge on what's going on under the hood :wink:
 
Ooh, thank you for that! First I thought I was missing a feature on the OSX client. This is getting nicer.

Now just one more beginners question, and this probably deserves a new thread, or maybe there is one already, but why does it take so long to get some anonymized funds mixed? I reduced the "rounds" setting to 2 just now, and I started the mixing a few hours ago, but it still says: "inputs hae an average of 1 of 2 rounds (50/0.0621469). I set the transaction fee to only 0.0000001. Is this just way too little? What is a sensible transaction fee?

Sorry for hijacking the thread. Tell me to put it elsewhere, that's fine.

Well, it's not a bad idea to start reading this forum - there is a lot of valuable info here and it's nicely structured. But if for some reason it doesn't suit you - search field is your friend :wink:

As for your questions:
- You need someone else to mix your funds with and it's not that many people mixing this days (many stopped mixing waiting for "dead change" issue to be solved) so it will take some time to find partners.
- I would suggest 0.001 or 0.01 for a fee - you need to pay miners something or they will have no initiative to include your transaction in nearest block, just like in any PoW coin. And even 0.01 is only 2c in current prices so it shouldn't hurt you too much.
