Electrum is probably the most popular open-source SPV wallet for bitcoin. Early 2017 I've picked up maintenance and support for DASH Electrum. Since then, I've assembled a small team of three developers. This is a proposal to fund the continuing development and support for Dash Electrum.

Execution and Schedule:

Work already performed or in progress. Deliverables are released publicly as soon as they are ready.

During next 3 months we plan to work on the following:
  • follow the upstream development
  • fix dash-specific issues (see github)
  • complete alternative mixing capabilities
  • investigate possibilities for DLC contracts, potentially leading a way to implement DeFi on Dash

Amount requested:

After paying Dec salaries, we are short of 25.5804 Dash.

At current exchange rate of 136.36USD/Dash our run rate is ~110.01 Dash per month.
  • 110.01 Dash * 3 month = 330.03 Dash
  • 5 Dash proposal submission
  • 25.58 Dash deficit
Total: 360.61 Dash or 120.20 Dash per month (121 Dash per month, rounded up)

As usual, in case of DASH appreciation, any leftover funds would be spent to extend the duration of the project. In case of DASH depreciation, we will go into a deficit mode again and will submit a new proposal after the end of this 3 month period.

Unless there would be material objection, this preproposal would be posted as complete proposal around Monday, Jan 3rd

After talking for several years with people "on the ground", who are running "real" businesses and are friendly to crypto, most of them say that the barrier is the absence of way for transferring and storing "stable" value, in, say, USD. That's why there's an explosion in stablecoins lately.

Creating DLC provides a way for utxo-based cryptocurrencies to introduce transferable stable value. Right now, doing it on Bitcoin is prohibitive because of fees and average block time. Implementation of DLC on Lightning is problematic until the protocol will be upgraded to PTLC instead of HTLC now.

Meanwhile, Dash still provides cheap (1duff/byte) and fast (InstantLock) transactions onchain. This might be an option for Dash to regain popularity.

Basically, that's my motivation to do prototype implementation of DLC's on Dash using Electrum codebase.
