Pre-Proposal : Integrate Dash into StrongCoin Wallet

Overview

StrongCoin.com wallet has over 100K users and is featured on Bitcoin.com choose your wallet. We are growing well and have been operating for 6 years.

Recently we added support for Bitcoin Cash and in the process made some major changes to our code to support multiple crypto currencies.

StrongCoin wallets are non-custodial and you hold the private keys, meaning you always have full, exclusive access to your funds.

We are proposing to add Dash to our wallet for new and existing users.

Investment from the community 25 Dash.

Scope and Deliverables

Integrate Dash nodes into our backend
Backend testing
User interface changes
User interface testing
End to end testing.

Execution and Schedule

We estimate approximately 4 weeks work for 1 developer. Development can start within 1 week of the day when the Proposal is funded.

Why are we asking for funding?

To cover the risk with the initial costs of integration.

Also, it's useful to us if the Dash community has 'Skin in the Game' to help promote the projects success. If the community funds a project they can see the work that goes into it and the results and have a sense of ownership.
 
More wallets are always better generally so I like the idea. And the price seems fair.

The really important question would: Are you going to support InstantSend and PrivateSend.

If you don't support InstantSend then I can guarantee that this proposal will fail. And while PrivateSend is not strictly required it would give you a huge advantage as you would have the only other Wallet besides Core that supports it.

Also, it would be good to know if you are open to implementing the additional features that will come with Evolution next year.
 
Propose 35 dash and you'll get my votes provided you rewrite everything so that dash gets priority. For example, where it says "Safe, Secure Bitcoin Storage", it would read "Safe, Secure Dash Storage" or "Safe, Secure Dash and Bitcoin Storage". In other words, if you must use the word "bitcoin" then you replace it with "dash and bitcoin". Search and replace throughout. (not "bitcoin and dash" because the order is wrong)

As this proposal stands, I'm not sure I could vote for this because it seems other cryptos will be added without paying you.

OTOH, hmm, I might be swayed if you included trezor support because, although trezor has it's own wallet, I feel there are not enough options, so I guess with some modification I could be converted.
 
Dash pays an entrance fee and others get in for free. Been there done that. Three times in a row now, actually. Strong no from me, no matter what changes you might offer. Especially considering Evolution will make this type of service completely obsolete anyway.

Agree with this. It is already in the wallet's best interest to add Dash support for the same reason they are planning to add other coins out of their own pocket. I might support funding if there were special perks thrown in for Dash that are not going to be available to other coins.

I totally understand why people would say no to this proposal. But I think there are two things we could be buying here. And keep in mind the price is relatively low compared to some other projects, which in my mind are less worthy...
  1. If they re-branded, re-writing the copy, giving priority to dash, then it would be a relatively cheap way to reach 120K users.
  2. Even with Evolution in the mix, diversity is a good thing. I realize we want Evolution to take center stage, but I would also hope other wallets can experiment and innovate.
As it stands, I tend to agree with the criticisms but I think there is room for this pre-proposal to be modified and negotiated.

We approach this purely from a business point of view. If users are asking us for ETH or XRP which is the case at the moment then we may add those to the wallet. We currently are not getting requests to add Dash.

Next, we look at coins with a marketing/proposal budget. Coins that cover our risk of development will get to the front of the queue and be implemented.

Evolution is a Dash only wallet AFAIK.

However the main demand in the industry at the moment is for multi currency non-custodial wallets. People want to invest in different coins and not have to sign up for multiple wallets. This is the service we will provide and we hope to provide a service for the top 30 currencies over the next couple of years.

So StrongCoin Wallet would be away to give easy access to Dash for investors and this is how you should see this proposal as a fast track into a multi currency wallet.

Actually, I agree with this statement regarding demand for multi-currency wallets. But then again, you're not alone in this space.

Again, I think I could be swayed if you had a unique proposition e.g. trezor support (because there's not too many multi-currency wallets doing that), or maybe implement dash Private Send? Or like I said earlier, re-branding with preference to dash... something that makes your dash offering unique or preferred.
 
I'm fed up of paying for things that other coins get for free. Dash is big enough to warrant inclusion without additional cost to our network.

I guess that's the general feeling on here. Perhaps you guys could offer a marketing push for wallet vendors. e.g. If I support Dash, you link to me on a 'choose your wallet' page similar to what they have on bitcoin.org.

I can't help but notice that there is no mention whatsoever of any alt-coins at all on your front page. Nothing. Never mind
Dash.

Bitcoin and bitcoin only. That's what you see on your front page. It would be easy to conclude (by a first time visitor) that you do nothing but Bitcoin.

I wouldn't even mind paying the modest sum you ask for the integration if people can see Dash on the front page.

You have to give us something to work with here.

We only recently converted over to multi currency, this is a piece of work we had to do for Bitcoin Cash. We simply did it in a way that would make adding more coins easier.

We will upgrade the landing page and include a section showing the currencies supported. Also the headline will change. Something along the lines of '
Safe, Secure Crypto Currency Storage'.

This work will happen in the next few weeks and I will post an update here when it's done.

So, "Dash" would still not appear on the landing page?
