Never trust your Hard drive!

I was getting a bit cocky as I had a near new Toshiba Laptop (6 months old) and being lazy with backing up my wallets thinking what could wrong with a new laptop or backing my wallets on the actual laptop.
By shear luck or the Dash God was talking to me, I backed up my wallets, chucked the USB in my draw and went on my merry way. I never close down programs or do a complete shut down of my laptop.
Next morning on the way to work, I open up the laptop and bingo, a nice black screen with bullshit messages.
I had wallets everywhere on it, Bit, Doge, Feather, Peer, Taco, Digibyte, Fedora, Bunny, Ozzie, Lite and my precious Dash.
To cut the long story short, My warranty got me a new HD, I only have one active wallet running now. Yes, its Dash.
I have time capsuled my other coins wallets (USB). Maybe they will be worth something in the future.

I'm glad I backed up my Dash wallet now and in hindsight should've got the extended warranty as well.

May I add that it's not only a good idea to have several(!) backups (backup-drives can fail as well), but also at different locations if things REALLY go South.

Some at home, some at work, some at my parents....drives are cheap, Dash not.

I have my Dash backed up on 2 USB's now. Have you ever had a USB fail?

Things do NOT exist if they are not on 3 different HD's
That is my computer rule of thump
yup. just have my main wallet calf on me the other day. Talk about sweating out a storm. Computer baked on me...but I managed to through it on a usb drive before it gave up the ghost. Holy smokes....stressfull. Hadn't backed up since Feb of this year. Which reminds me...I always date stamp my backups...if I have a back up from say January...does that work for backing up?

i am on a Mac and do this super manual, i do not trust backup softwares

My wallets are all in folder - Example:
Dash_private_11thMay2015
Dash_MN_9thJune2014
Dash_FundraiserVideo_8thOct2014

i have them on 4 different USB Drives in 2 different locations (different houses) + 1 in Waterproofed casing (Pelican)
(yes the paranoia is strong with this one)
i then back them up once a week onto the USB drives
(pain to do, but super save !)

One of the reasons I posted was that it is rare to see someone posting that their machine is stuffed. I've learnt one, back up like your depends on it. Thanks for sharing your stories.

I tested an old backup and it only had half the balance of expected as I'd mixed with it and new keys had been created, fortunately I wasn't relying on it!

It will fail if you put it in the microwave oven, try to avoid that happening

Exactly
+ my "paranoia" is not only technical but
Environmental , tsunami , fire , ....
Waterproofed casing !! (Pelican)

Easy to do
Send double encrypted drive home to mum
Is this the Pelican brand?
