Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

Awesome. But still, it should be mentioned somewhere, on the official website for example. Because there is no UI to easily generate a multisig address in the QT client, and posts like this tend to show that it's not obvious. Or it seems merchants are looking for this feature.

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

Also, about dark markets. I read somewhere that what's holding them is the missing multisig feature. I also notice that Darkcoin handles it already and thelonecrouton built a UI to facilitate its use. But that's not embedded in the wallet and I can't find any tutorial targeted to online...

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

Wow, I think you are drawing way too many conclusions from one word. I said unfortunately because of the current state of markets from the deep web, which are if I'm not mistaken the main place to buy stolen credit cards numbers, to acquire human organs, to hire assassins... The term dark market...

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

True, but third parties under NDA can do it too, like Kristov Atlas did. It's not as good as open-sourcing because it requires trust to these third parties. But let's be honest, not every user will dive into the C++ code to confirm it by themselves. 99% of Darkcoin users will just trust third...

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

I brought my arguments in the first post. And no, my answer was not this, it was "Well, alright then. Dark markets with darkcoins are a good reason I guess.". So yes, I'm quite convinced now, thanks to CODERsp and jpr. I just told darkstrike420 "meh, whatever" because he was accusing me of...

Unfortunately I can't or don't know how to edit the poll :\

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

I'm a Darkcoin user and long term holder. These concerns were legit. It's a good thing there are people like jpr, CODERsp, or vertoe here to give good arguments and answer constructively because omg some of you just behave like asses with newcomers. Maybe I'm naive yes. I think big tech...

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

Well, alright then. Dark markets with darkcoins are a good reason I guess. Believe me, they don't hold history of the video, voice, or files you exchange. It would be too much.

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

Yes, unfortunately I think dark markets are the real deal. Did any of you try to reach them ? The owners of OpenBazaar for example ? Do they really care about the closed-source thing ? Or is this just an excuse to stick to Bitcoins ?

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

That means this to us because we're tech-savvy people, and we know the crypto-currency world is full of sharks. But most people who invest in crypto-currencies are very distant from this. If the goal is to reach other people like us, then yes open-sourcing Darkcoin will have an impact. But if...

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

Well I don't see a lot of points to counter what I said. You all seem convinced this will outweigh the risks, but that's it. I mean, when I talk about the fact that open-sourcing Darkcoin won't be relayed to general information websites like the Huffpost, and not even more tech-savvy ones like...

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

I think that's not accurate, most people don't know about the code behind crypto-currencies and if that's open-source or not, even here. People who told you this must have a good knowledge of the tech behind Darkcoin, that's a niche. A lot of my friends who wish to invest in crypto-currencies...

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

You're right. If you consider the entire crypto space, that's beneficial, because that means it could help someone build another crypto-currency with the advantages of Darkcoin and add even more useful features to it. But in this case you won't really care about Darkcoin anymore, will you?

Why open-sourcing may be a really bad idea…

Here are a few concerns about the upcoming source code release to the public, and why this may be a bad idea. Darkcoin is a very innovative crypto-currency, we all know it. Among alt-coins, very few have this potential: it’s certainly the most advanced in the anonymity field, it’s quite stable...
