You don't need the email to confirm account for now. The email is supposed to be fixed this evening. If not, I expect they will disable the email option to change account settings.

My opinion is that the non-darksend version is no good. Get the latest RC and it should fix the problem.

The account verification was turned off for new accounts. If you already signed up, you will need to wait for your account to get unlocked (it may have been done already). If not, just create a new account. I tested and was able to create a new account with email verification.
