umm crazy idea. Keep darkcoin and launch dash as a new coin. Use darkcoin for first release of new features and for its privacy first cred and feed that innovation into dash.

Hmm. Another option is multi-algo like digibyte have done? They are still fine tuning but in theory it means asics, gpus, cpus everyone can play and because you have blocks being found by different algos a 51% is way more difficult.
