Peter Todd: The Ethereum DAO Bailout Needs A Coin Vote

The point of an ASIC is to carry out a particular task more efficiently, in terms of time and / or power, than alternate methods. Equihash has been designed to make memory bandwidth the primary efficiency factor. This does not preclude an ASIC solution for Equihash but, in order to offer an...

Peter Todd: The Ethereum DAO Bailout Needs A Coin Vote

Aside from the centralisation issue, ASICs are an additional barrier to entry - and not at all easy to acquire in certain parts of the world.

Peter Todd: The Ethereum DAO Bailout Needs A Coin Vote

The fact that X11 was supposed to be ASIC resistant, and therefore more accessible to individual miners with off-the-shelf mining rigs, but turned out not to be shows that X11 should be reassessed. Potentially, it would only take a minor tweak to one algorithm to break the hold ASICs have on...

Peter Todd: The Ethereum DAO Bailout Needs A Coin Vote

Are there any bitcoin devs that are openly 'disloyal'? But that comment does seem petty - I wouldn't have expected it from him... btw I met him briefly at Anarchapulco 2015 - somehow we didn't get onto alt-coins... ;) But who does he think we're aping to no effect? I wonder if he'd be...

Why don't we halve the Masternode collateral requirement now?

Just out of curiousity, does the Dash network allow people to operate nodes just for the heck of it? ie: Without getting paid to do it?

Why don't we halve the Masternode collateral requirement now?

Hm... I didn't realise this suggestion was intended as a kind of publicity stunt. How many times can the network rules, which ought to be long-term and stable, be tweaked for the sake of the precession of passing fads that is marketing? Marketing has its place but that place is not where...

Why don't we halve the Masternode collateral requirement now?

Would a safer, less disruptive way to see if more people are wiling to operate more nodes be to introduce a variable rate of return between 10% and 100% of the current return for operating a node with a stake between 100 Dash and 1000 Dash? btw Does the Dash block reward halve every few years...

dashman - linux masternode mangement made mootastic

Getting a litle off-topic... What kind of resources are needed to run a masternode? Would it be practical to run 10 on a single computer?

A Call for tungfa to Heed the Masternodes' Vote

@demo The only way a vote reduces tyranny of the majority is if the majority don't vote.

A Call for tungfa to Heed the Masternodes' Vote

    > Masternode owners, in their majority, are a bunch of stupid people. But voting with numbers would fix all that? Way to be consistent.

The previous page is riddled with the same automated, form-letter style post - "Hi, this is Baikal customer service. Nice to communicate with you. Baikal official website has [blablabla]"

A Call for tungfa to Heed the Masternodes' Vote

@demo You might be thinking of the best democracy money can buy - only counting the votes that you like. But this is Dash - it's supposed to be accountable and consistent here. btw How many masternodes do you have to vote with?

X11 ASIC Baikal Mini Miner Spec

Is Dash mining purely for ASIC owners now? Wasn't the intent of X11 to avoid this? Does Dash have the possibility of tweaking X11 (or switching to something entirely new) to place mining back in the hands of regular computer users?

    Mining dash worth it?

ZCash is making an effort to use an ASIC resistant proof of work algorithm - it's called Equihash. Just note that ZCash is still at the testnet stage and should start its mainnet later this year...
