Internet catastrophe, Masternodes to the rescue?

Guy learns never again to share his wallet with his wife, as both the local arms dealer and the local baker come knocking demanding their AK and their loaf back. Good point though! Dunno.

Internet catastrophe, Masternodes to the rescue?

That's like saying nobody would sell you a gun or bread for cash. Same thing. The gun dealer wants to sell guns. The baker wants to sell bread. Commerce continues.

Internet catastrophe, Masternodes to the rescue?

Same way InstantX works - timestamped locking.

Internet catastrophe, Masternodes to the rescue?

Expensive, and also prone to outages. I'm talking about facilitating commerce in areas without (or at least temporarily without) such infrastructure.

Internet catastrophe, Masternodes to the rescue?

So the internet, at least in your location, goes down. Your cryptocurrency is now completely useless, and therefore worthless. Without whole-network consensus blocks can't be validated, forks occur, situation gets rapidly FUBAR. Would it be possible, if there was just one Masternode locally to...

    v0.10.15 - Onyx Release

elbereth's MNs are on v17 and older. drk.mn isn't magic, it's just data pulled from his MNs/running wallets and stuck in one place. If the MNs etc. are running deprecated versions of the daemon, the results can't be relied upon to be accurate...

[Resolved] 32 Darkcoins disappeared from encrypted wallet.

To dump privkey: In QT client, Help > Debug window > Console In box at bottom, type 'walletpassphrase passphrase 60' without the quotes to unlock the wallet for 60 seconds Then type 'dumpprivkey darkcoinaddress' without the quotes, it will spit out the privkey in the output window above the box...

    v0.10.15 - Onyx Release

If you can manage that, you're practically a linux expert ;) - you might as well replace step 2 with a Putty > mv darkcoind darkcoind-old && wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/darkcoinproject/darkcoin-binaries/master/darkcoin-0.10.15.19-linux.tar.gz - it'll probably be about 100x faster...

    v0.10.15 - Onyx Release

Your browser may have cached the darkcoin.io download page (assuming that's where you got it) ? - I can only vouch for the linux link, it's definitely v19. (github source also good!)

Free SMUT! (Simple Masternode Update Tool)

SMUT v42:lumberjack! Now with logging, geddit? I find it useful for keeping a record of MN balances over time, you might too! Works fine on linux, probably looks a bit funny on Win, no Mac crash test dummies yet that I know of: http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=73743521721716758543 Other...

Masternode Payment Testing - Now vs Later?

I vote update again now. I don't really care about MN payment variance with the RC3 code, it's good enough, but if enforcement is part of the roadmap I think it's better to tackle it now. Updating a Masternode takes 60 seconds or less. I don't know how long updating a pool takes but I doubt...

    v0.10.15 - Onyx Release

I don't think it was a hash distribution issue. And if it was, it would be about 1000x cheaper (and far more fun!) to hunt down whoever runs nicehash and beat them with a stick tickle them mercilessly until they behaved themselves than to throw $$$$$$$ at rig rentals.

    Masternode Proof of Stake

What did any of those coins do that had real world utility? Without adoption DRK is just an interesting little experiment. Eventual success has nothing to do with maintaining the interest of a few geeks.

    Masternode Proof of Stake

No, total hash by itself is meaningless, it needs to be distributed to offer any 'security' and 3 pools owning >50% of the network (the case for BTC, DRK, and most PoW coins) is not security.

    v0.10.15 - Onyx Release

All I did was check the blockheight on each MN against the block explorer. They all matched. Nothing more needed doing.

    v0.10.15 - Onyx Release

Agreed, AFAIK there's no need for 1100 MN ops to do this.

    v0.10.15 - Onyx Release

Enforcement is clearly a tough problem. Is this going to delay or compromise InstanTX?

Haasbot | Automate Darkcoin and Crypto Trades | Over 500 Altcoins Supported

I want an exchange that not only doesn't have a trading API but uses capchas or something before you can even place a bid. And once a trade is made pushes the funds right back to the buyer. Bots are an arms race and the exchanges have all the ammunition because people leave their balances...
